JAKE BUGG

I got into Jake Bugg around the same time I discovered Catfish & The Bottlemen/Drowners aka the time in which Jake Bugg was touring in Melbourne and I was in China. Jake Bugg is a ‘modern Bob Dylan’ as Stephen King called him, he’s got a bit of a country-ish vibe and his beautiful English accent comes through.... so much love. A Song about Love, Broken, Messed Up Kids and Country Song are my favourites. Jake Bugg is a legend. Fingers crossed he comes back to Australia soon. I’m still really heartbroken that I missed his gig. Don’t talk to me about it, I might cry on you. I told Liss to listen to him while I was away in China, I begged her 'go to this gig!!! listen to this guy!!!'  but no, she failed me, and only began to listen to him when I returned....don't do the same thing, get into him now and be prepared should he announce any upcoming tours!

SPIKE ISLAND -- THE STONE ROSES

Spike Island (2012) is about four boys from Manchester, and their trip to Spike Island to see The Stone Roses in 1990. This film made me love The Stone Roses - I had a real spiritual experience. I've watched it about 3-4 times, and will probably watch it again sometime this week. The most recent rewatch of the film bought me to to tears while the gang watched The Stone Roses sing 'She Bangs the Drums'. The film consists of Nico Mirallegro (also known for My Mad Fat Diary - also recommend this show), Jordan Murphy (Also in My Mad Fat Diary), Emilia Clarke (Kahleesi before she was Kahleesi), Elliott Tittensor, Adam Long and Oliver Heald. Recommend this massively. Please watch it. It's so good. The Stone Roses are played throughout and their concert at Spike Island will make you sad that you've never gotten to see them live.

// THE 1975 //

Okay. This band is my band. They hail from Manchester and have been a band for 10 years - or as Matty puts it 'we've been a band as long as I've been a proper person'. Their lineup consists of Matty Healy (Singer/Guitar), Adam Hann (Guitar), George Daniel (Drums), Ross Macdonald (Bass) and John Waugh (Saxaphone).They formed when they were in high school, but they released their first EP, Facedown EP in 2012. I spend hours and hours watching their interviews and their sets at festivals. Their album has been on repeat for about 6 months. I first saw them at BDO this January, and my love for them has only grown stronger. I saw them again in July....and, I MET MATTY HEALY. Highlight of my life. All of my twin sisters photos with him are blurry because I was shaking so hard after being so close to him. I'm seeing them again, twice, in January. Seriously, they're great. Watch James Booth's tour video set to their song 'Girls' - it's beautiful. Their sound varies from electro/pop to indie rock and I adore them. The first ever song I heard of theirs was 'The City' and I fell inlove instantly.

DROWNERS

Drowners formed in NYC in 2011 with the lineup consisting of Matt Hitt (heart eyes for days), Jack Ridley, Joe Brodie and Erik Lee Snider. The boys released their EP 'Between Us Girls' in 2013, and their self titled album 'Drowners' in 2014. I got into their stuff earlier this year, also in April - Luv, Hold Me Down was played on repeat for days. 'Ways to Phrase A Rejection', 'A Button on Your Blouse', 'Pure Pleasure' and Matt Hitt's cover of 'Cigarette That Burns Forever' are favourites of mine. Still holding out for an Australian tour. It'll Happen. Eventually. Their indie/rock vibe is great - their sound has undertones of a UK sound as Matt Hitt is originally from Wales, he's a former model and friend of Alexa Chung (please let me be friends with both of you).

CATFISH & THE BOTTLEMEN: THE BALCONY

CATFISH & THE BOTTLEMEN are an English band who captured my heart in April of this year. I discovered them through Tomm1975 on twitter whilst I was in Beijing and added their songs RangoA.S.AHomesick and Pacifier to my Spotify playlist, they take me back to Beijing every time I listen to them. The lads have just recently released their debut album 'The Balcony' which features 11 tracks. My favourites thus far are Homesick, Fallout, Kathleen, Pacifier and Business. I highly recommend you get around the lads ASAP as they are touring Australia with The Kooks and The Griswolds in January of next year. Tickets are on sale 3 October. BUY THEIR ALBUM, I RECOMMEND IT!! THEY'LL BE HUGE - YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

Twitter: @thebottlemen - if you tweet them they're likely to respond - we've talked a few times, it was rad - in fact, I'm pretty sure I'm the first person they told that they were coming to Australia (!!!)

ALMOST FAMOUS = ULTIMATE GOALS

"That groupie"? She was a Band-Aid! All she did was love your band. And you used her, all of you! You used her and threw her away! She almost died last night while you were with Bob Dylan. You guys, you’re always talking about the fans, the fans, the fans; she was your biggest fan, and you threw her away! And if you can’t see that, that’s your biggest problem. And I love her! I love her!"

This film provides insight into the music industry in 1973, with William Miller being given the chance to write an article on Stillwater for Rolling Stone Magazine. William goes on the road with Stillwater - ignoring his high school responsibilities (aka the dream) and meets Penny Lane, befriends Lester Bangs and is referred to as 'the enemy' by the band. I don't know about you, but I would kill to be in Williams position.  Now, if you haven't already seen this movie - please exit this and watch it IMMEDIATELY. I watch it frequently. My friends refuse to watch it with me because I can recite the film word for word.

Penny Lane aka Lady Goodman is the inspiration behind the blog title, and my life inspiration, and no, I am not referring to The Beatles song - sorry, I am not a fan, aside from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - sorry everyone. The Beatles are just not my thing. Penny Lane is the ultimate, MY ultimate. Seriously, if I could be anyone, I would be Penny Lane. Or William Miller. I love William Miller, massive crush. Among others of course - aka Alexa Chung, Gemma Janes, WINONA RYDER, Camille Rowe... I could go on. Penny provided me with much wisdom throughout the film - and filled my head with overwhelming desire to have her life. Living on the road, going to gigs, hanging out with the band - as well as being the coolest and most elusive chick going around.

Aside from Penny Lane, Lester Bangs is of great importance in my life. Phillip Seymour Hoffman's Lester Bangs is everything. He too provided me with advice that I'll hold onto forever. Lester Bangs gave me the realisation that music was the most important thing in my life. Well, I already knew that - but now I knew that I wanted to be like him. I want my house to look like his - records filling every wall. Bangs protégée is William Miller - the sweetest lil thing ever. William Miller is who I actually am.

This movie is everything.
